Road Closure Brochures: The Road Closure Brochure will be delivered, as in years past, to all residences and businesses along the route during the last week of October. Please be on the lookout for these as they have helpful information regarding street closures and general event info. It will also include a special notice for the downtown residents.
No Parking Notices: For anyone parked on any of the closed streets, they will need to move their vehicle prior to road closures early Saturday morning. No Parking courtesy notices will be distributed on Saturday, October 29th to all parked cars on these streets. In addition, no-parking signs will be posted throughout the course beginning on Wednesday 10/2.
Alternate Parking: For anyone in the downtown areas whose on-street parking or driveways will be impacted by the race (particularly along Harris and Charlton Streets and the area between those), we have secured alternate parking spots in the Liberty St. garage for their use (across from the Civic Center). We have parking passes for this and anyone wishing to park in the garage will have to have a pass to do so. This free parking option will be available beginning on Friday, November 4th at 4:00pm and will end on Saturday, November 5th at 4:00pm.
Access In and Out of Downtown: In addition to using any open streets to enter or leave the area, there will also be an access lane on E. Broad St. going southbound only from Oglethorpe Ave. to Gaston St. Traffic will be directed to go south on E. Broad and west on Gaston St. to leave the area.
Bands/Noise Concerns: We have informed the person in charge of booking talent to please be considerate of which type of performers are placed in the downtown area (ideally it will be more quiet/calm variety) as to not disturb the residents with very loud music, especially since the runners will go through downtown earlier in the day.
Trash Pickup: Another concern you mentioned on behalf of the DNA folks is trash in the area. We do have street sweepers coming through immediately after the runners and tail vehicles to clean up the course. It is our hope, and our experience from years past, that they do a great job of cleaning up the streets and that there should be no litter or trash left behind.
Please visit the website to view the course map, road closure grid and no-parking grid. Also, attached to this email is the alternate access notice for the downtown area. Please distribute this information as needed and direct folks to the website for further information.
I hope I have covered all concerns and issues for your folks; please always feel free to call or email me with anything else that arises or anything at all I can help with. I truly understand the possible inconveniences this event may bring to the downtown area but I also hope we have alleviated those as best we can and that the residents of downtown Savannah find this to be as enjoyable and enriching for our community as it has been for the past 5 years. Please let me know if there is anything else you need!
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
