From John Buckovich, Vice President for University Safety at SCAD - The University for Creative Careers to the Downtown Neighborhood Association:
We are now up and running with our community patrols. Below is a brief summary of the patrols. Also, if community members would ever like to see our command center in SAV they are welcome to email me: firstname.lastname@example.org
President Wallace recently conceived a new initiative to increase SCAD security patrol groups in the downtown and midtown areas. This initiative was not only meant to benefit students, faculty and staff, but the entire Savannah community.
The SCAD Community Patrol Officers (CPOs) started patrols on Wednesday January 4. On their first night out, a SCMPD officer flagged one of the SCAD patrols to mention that they were looking for a potentially dangerous suspect and gave the SCAD patrol the description. Not ten minutes later, SCAD's patrol group was able to identify the suspect's location and notify police for a successful arrest to be made!
This arrest is a testament to the successful partnership between the Savannah Chatham-Metropolitan Police Department and SCAD Safety and Security. Chief Lumpkin agreed to give SCAD access to a SCMPD police channel, enabling SCAD officers to alert the SCMPD immediately if they see any illegal behavior.
The SCAD CPO’s have engage hundreds of citizens, asking if they need assistance and making sure residents get inside their doors safely at night.
President Wallace continues to invest in the safety of the Savannah community, I am confident that this initiative will help Savannah to be a safer place to live, work and go to school.
