Your Input on Tours in the Historic Landmark District Is Needed

Monday, October 22, 2018 5:06 PM | DNA ADMIN Communications (Administrator)

The Office of Special Events, Film & Tourism is presenting information on a proposed restriction of hours for tour operators in the Landmark Historic District tomorrow, October 23rd, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm The meeting will be held at 3401 Edwin Street, Savannah. They are hoping to get input on what the public wants in this regard. The Downtown Neighborhood Association’s Tourism Advisory Council representatives, Melinda Allen and Bill Lovett, recommend the following based on what cities like St. Augustine and Charleston have done regarding the balance of hours of tour operation and quality of life for residents and visitors alike:
Restrict tours from operating from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. in the following area:

  • Using the hotel overlay approved by the Savannah City Council, increase the tour hours restricted area to follow the entire zone area. Arterial streets of Liberty, Oglethorpe, Broughton, and Bay would NOT be included.
  • Tours will still be able to operate after 10 pm in the remainder of the Landmark District more conducive to late night activity.

If you can make this meeting, we’d appreciate your attendance and suggestions. If you can’t make it but would like to provide your suggestions, please email to kbrenneman@savannahdna.org. We’ll make sure your message gets to the Office of Special Events, Film & Tourism.

We have been assured there will be another meeting in the downtown area in the near future but your input is urgently requested.
