About the DNA

The Downtown Neighborhood Association of Savannah, GA Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, was established in 1974 by downtown residents. Its mission is to promote the quality of life in Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District, protect Savannah’s unique downtown environment, and advocate for public policies which support these objectives.

The DNA is the only group in the National Historic Landmark District looking out for the best interests of its residents. It is vitally important that residents support and participate in the organization in light of the increasing commercial pressures and threats to the historic designation and beauty.

The DNA provides information for members to learn more about city resources, ordinances, and file complaints about quality-of-life issues. The latest updates can be found in our weekly newsletter and on our website. The DNA also provides grants to support local organizations that enhance the downtown community and its way of life through education, safety, music, and children’s activities.

Advocacy

As an active organization dedicated to maintaining the livability of downtown, the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) works closely with local government agencies to ensure the fabric of our neighborhoods and quality of life are protected.

Recent problems have caused the Board of Directors and other members to focus on: the increase in crime; homelessness concerns; over tourism in its many forms; protection of the Oglethorpe Plan; and lack of enforcement across many quality-of-life issues. Learn more about recent efforts here.

Membership

Approximately 400 DNA members are dedicated to making downtown a thriving neighborhood of families, individuals, students, and businesses. Their support enables the Board of Directors to work to enhance our downtown community and way of life. The problems faced by a historic community are difficult and complex, and it takes a knowledgeable and strong voice to make our issues heard. We encourage you to become part of that voice.
