From the President:
Shootings
Sadly, there were two shootings over the weekend in the downtown area. This is an update we received from Captain Max Nowinsky:
The first incident occurred around 1:00 am on Sunday. Officers heard shots fired in the area of M.L.K. and St Julian. They observed a subject fleeing the area. The 19 y/o male was apprehended and found to be in possession of a rifle. There were no reported injuries. The suspect claimed he was being shot at and returned fire in defense.
The second incident occurred shortly after 2:00 am on Sunday. Gunfire was heard in the area of Bay and Jefferson. Again, suspects were seen fleeing the area, they were pursued and apprehended. 2 adult males. Firearms were recovered. An adult male in a vehicle was injured after being grazed by a projectile. That victim stated his vehicle was shot at. Another adult male was also grazed by a projectile while standing on Bay.
Both incidents resulted in quick response and arrests from members of our police department.
