From the President:
Member Survey—Homelessness/vagrancy and Tourism
As promised last week, we have posted the survey responses and comments on our website. We encourage you to review them and see what your neighbors think about the survey’s two subjects—homelessness/vagrancy and tourism. The Board is reviewing them as well and will be identifying additional issues and concerns members raised in their comments. We thank each of you for your response and excellent comments.
Voting
In case you are not aware there is an election scheduled for March 18. There is only one item on the ballot and that is the Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST). This is a one-penny sales tax that funds capital projects for schools, including buildings, technology, and other needs outside of the general fund for the Board of Education. You can learn details about the intent of the funds here.
Early voting has already started and runs through March 14. The early voting location is The Board of Elections Annex at 1249 Eisenhower Ave. The office is open from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. In addition, the office also will be open on Saturday, March 8.
Talmadge Bridge
Everyone should have received a flyer in the mail from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) seeking comments from the public concerning the Savannah River Crossing Improvement Project. We encourage everyone to submit comments as well as attending the Open House scheduled for March 13 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St. For those of you who did not receive a mailer you can visit the website here and leave your comments.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
The DNA will once again have a float in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade this year. Fortunately, this year we were given earlier approval of our application, and this advance notice has allowed us to design a float that better represents the DNA mission and our community. With our new design, seating is limited on the float so please join us in walking the parade route and representing DNA. I promise you will enjoy the atmosphere as well as the friendship from the parade goers.
